TAR-STAR
Tar Star is an effective bitumen (tar) encapsulator and emulsifier that is designed to reduce accretion on tool surfaces and surface equipment. When used as directed, Tar Star will reduce shaker screen blinding and waxy bitumen accretion on bits, rods and other tool surfaces. Drilled cuttings are also much easier to handle.
Application
TAR-STAR can be used to prevent bit balling and tar accretion occurring in bitumen rich formations. Being that it is not a traditional solvent, there is no erosion of the hole. HIGH FLASH should be used in conjunction with TAR-STAR to prevent shaker blinding in the event that TAR- STAR concentrations become diminished.
Advantages
- Effective at low dose rate
- Readily soluble
- Does not erode boreholes like traditional solvents like limonene and pine solvents
- Emulsified bitumen fluids can be inhibitive around surface shale and clay formations like the Clearwater
